Jonah Chapter 1 Verses 6 and 7

We continued our preparation toward the Haftarah Trope Challenge today. We began as we do each week with a review of all the trope we have learned thus far. Then we learned the 5th clause, T’vir. We identified and highlighted in blue all of the T’vir clauses in our Haftarah example. We practiced using hand signs and chanting. Then we reviewed the Blessing Before Haftarah, learned the 2nd paragraph of the Blessing After Haftarah, and practiced the trope from our Jonah example, verses 6-7. To help break down the clauses of these two verses, I placed the trope only on the board:

We concluded our Hebrew lesson with a complete review. Our Haftarah Trope Challenge is 4 weeks away, Sunday, May 6.  Please encourage your student to take 5 minutes a day to practice the Blessings before and after Haftarah as well as verses 6 and 7.

In addition, I wanted to remind parents and students about our observance of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) this Wednesday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. Our temple member, Ernie Heimann will be talking about his personal experience on the Kindertransport.

The following Wednesday, April 18, we will observe Yom HaZikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day) starting at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary, followed by dinner at 6:00 and a celebration of Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day) at 6:45 p.m. See this flyer for details.
