Torah Trope Challenge 5782

The Torah Reading for the First Day of Rosh Hashanah

Our 6th grade learners have worked so hard to acquire all the elements of chanting Torah! On Wednesday, January 19th during Hebrew school, students will be assessed with the annual Torah Trope Challenge. Successful completion of these skills will indicate that the class is ready to complete our Torah Trope unit and move on to the second and final unit, Haftarah. Students will:

1. Chant the V’ahavta prayer using the appropriate trope names and melodies (click on the V’ahavta link for a copy of the pdf)

2. Chant the Blessings before and after the reading of Torah in Hebrew using the appropriate melody (click on the Blessings before and after the reading of Torah for a copy of the pdf)

Each student will chant the V’ahavta and Blessings for me individually. We will sit just outside the classroom, so each student does not have to chant everything in front of their peers. If a student doesn’t “pass” the TTC (they need another opportunity or further practice) they will have the chance to take the TTC during the next class, until the whole class passes. Learners or parents who have specific concerns, please contact me.

To aid in preparation for the Torah Trope Challenge (TTC), there are a number of resources your learners can utilize, all available on the Trope page:

As we have in the weeks leading to break, we will continue to practice towards TTC in class. I appreciate your support of your learners as you encourage them through this process. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
